Perfect Grad-Prom Hairstyle & Haircare Guide |
|

Putting together your Graduation, Prom, or Formal look involves more than just choosing your dress, shoes, and accessories. Your hairstyle will also add a huge impact to your overall outfit. The perfect hairstyle should complement your dress and create a balanced look that also reflects your personality.
Follow these easy tips to create the ultimate finishing touch to your Graduation event, with the perfect hairstyle.
First, find your Grad-Prom hairstyle. The length and texture of your hair will help determine how you can actually wear your hair. Choose a style that will complement the dress you'll be wearing. If your gown is low cut, strapless, or off the shoulder, consider a hairstyle that lets some hair fall down on your shoulders and doesn't leave that area bare. You can still wear an upstyle or updo, but let some hair down. Straightened strands or soft curls will soften the style.
If you'd like to wear your hair down, then be sure to choose a style with lots of body and bounce, or try a half-up, half-down look.
Your face shape and body shape also plays a role in how much height and width you need to create with your hairstyle to balance your outfit.
If you're tall and thin, avoid tight updos that add more height to your shape. Choose a look with curls to create a soft, full, rounded shape.
If your Grad-Prom or formal dress has a simple design with minimal beading and details, choose a more elaborate hairstyle. Add sparkling hair accessories like hairpins, haircombs, or a small tiara or headband to your do. If your dress or gown has a lot of detailing, then with with a simpler hairdo to create that balanced look with your outfit.
If you're confused about which hairstyle will work best for you, a great way to find your Grad or Prom hairstyle is to register with a service like The HairStyler - see our demo below. Even our own staff members have subscribed to this service loved the results! It's so easy to upload a photo and try on all the fabulous hairstyles. You can instantly see how each hairstyle will suit you and find out which ones will work with your hair. What could be easier than that for choosing your perfect Grad, Prom, or Formal hairstyle look? Once you've actually chosen the styles you like, simply print them out and take them to your hairstylist.
Be sure to make a pre-Prom hair consultation with your hair dresser to try out the style that you want. This will give you the final picture on how the hairdo works with your dress and accessories. You'll also know how long it takes to style your hair for the big day. Don't forget to also pre-book other spa or salon appointments such as waxing, make-up, and a pedicure and manicure before your event. Usually the hairstylist will tell you to wash your hair the day before the event, that way it's easier to style than when it's freshly washed.
To make sure you have super-shiny, healthy looking tresses for your Graduation or Prom night, start your hair care routine as early as possible. Use an intense conditioning treatment once or twice weekly that keeps your hair in great shape. This type of treatment will also make your hair strands easier to manage with less breakage, and it also gives your hair a natural shine.
Use a leave-in moisturizer after each shampooing to protect and your hair from the drying and damaging effects of the sun, salt, or chlorine water. Stronger hair can better handle the day-to-day styling demands you put on it.
HEALTHY HAIR TIP! If your hairstyle needs a lot of hairspray for teasing or curling, don't forget to load your hair with a good detangling conditioner before shampooing after your event, or you will have lots of breakage.
