Dress Ordering Tips
Shopping for your dress online doesn't have to be confusing or intimidating.
In fact, with the huge selection of styles available on the internet today, it's easier than ever to shop for your dream gown from the convenience of home! Many of our customers visit bridal shops before buying their dress. If you've tried on dresses or gowns in a store or boutique, then you already know which styles look best on you. If you're not sure which dress silhouette will flatter your body shape, you can read more about choosing the perfect style here.
As with most designer formal wear, our dresses fit smaller than regular clothing sizes.
Measure yourself carefully and DO NOT guess at your dress size. Be sure to carefully follow Measuring Instructions and use the size chart shown with each of our dresses.
The recommended time for ordering your Wedding or Formal dress is 3 to 6 months before your event. "The sooner the better rule" also applies to Grad-Prom dresses. New Graduation-Prom dresses are usually in store by January of each year, and the season's most popular styles can sell out very quickly. We recommend planning to order your Grad-Prom dress early to avoid disappointment if the dress you really want sells out.
While most of our Wedding and Formal dresses are available with much quicker delivery times than traditional bridal stores, it's still important to place your dress order early enough before your Wedding or event to allow your seamstress time for any alterations you may need to have done to your dress after you receive it.
FITTING & DRESS ORDERING TIPS:
1. Corset and lace-up back style dresses provide an adjustible fit and are an excellent choice if you're between sizes.
2. Bust and waist measurements are more important than hip measurements for full A-line or ball gown style dresses.
3. It's easier to alter a dress to fit smaller than to make it fit larger. Almost any formal dress may need alterations to get a perfect fit.
4. When you order a dress online, you can expect some wrinkling associated with packing and shipping. Don't compare the dress that comes out of a package with the photos on websites of a professionally steamed dress. To get the same look for your dress, we always recommend having your dress professionally steamed or pressed after any alterations are done, and before your wedding or event. Your local dry cleaner can do this for you for a very reasonable cost.
Important! We rely on the sizing information supplied to us by you for your order. You are responsible for selecting your size based on your measurements and the manufacturer's size chart. We cannot suggest or choose a specific size for you, we can only give you information on how to take your measurements. Please be aware that we are not responsible if you order an incorrect size.
HOW TO TAKE YOUR MEASUREMENTS
Be sure to read our Measuring Instructions page for full details.
BUST: measure around the fullest part of your bust, preferably wearing a bra style that you will wear with the dress. The measuring tape should be comfortable, and not too tight when taking your bust measurement. This measurement is NOT the same as your bra size.
WAIST: measure around your waist about 1 to 2 inches above your belly button. Do not take your waist measurement over clothing. The measuring tape should be comfortable, and not too tight when taking your waist measurement.
HIP: measure around the fullest part of your hips, about 6 to 7 inches below your belly button. The measuring tape should be comfortable, and not too tight when taking your hip measurement. Do not take your hip measurement over clothing.
HOW DO I KNOW WHICH SIZE TO ORDER?
Select the size that best matches your largest measurment (bust, waist or hip). For ball gown or full A-line styles, your bust and waist measurements are more important than your hip measurement. If you're between sizes, it's usually best to order the larger size so you have room to move in the dress, then plan to have your local seamstress or tailor make alterations to the areas that need adjustment to give you a perfect fit.
If you're between sizes, you may also want to choose a dress with a corset or lace-up style back, or a full skirt, instead of a tightly fitted skirt.
There's no question, our customers love the designs and quality of our designer dresses, and one of the most important aspects of ordering a dress online, is choosing the correct size for your dress. Be sure to use the size chart and Measuring Instructions shown with our designer dresses.
Measure yourself carefully and DO NOT guess at your dress size based on what you normally wear in regular clothing.
The extra time it takes to measure yourself correctly, or to have your seamstress take your measurements for you, is more than worth the effort when it comes to ordering your correct dress size.
